The aim of any surgical fracture treatment is to reconstruct the anatomy and restore its function. The Small Locking Compression Plate System has many similarities to existing non-locking plate systems but with a few important improvements. Instead of cortical screws, locking head screws provide the ability to create a fixed-angle construct which also provides advantages in osteopenic bone or multifragmentary fractures where traditional screw purchase is compromised. Locking head screws does not rely on plate/bone compression to maintain stability, but function similarly to multiple small angled blade plates. The Small Locking Compression Plate System has the following features: Uniform hole spacing, Load (compression) and neutral screw positions, Small Locking Compression Plates have combination locking and compression holes (combi holes), The combi holes allow placement of standard cortical and cancellous bone screws on one side or threaded conical locking screws on the opposite side of each hole. Indications: All Small Fragment LCP Locking Compression Plates are intended for fixation of fractures, osteotomies, and non-union of the clavicle, scapula, olecranon, humerus, radius, ulna, pelvis, distal tibia and fibula, particularly in osteopenic bone. Fixation Principles: The following points distinguish treatment using locking head screw technology from conventional plating techniques: It enables fracture treatment using compression plating with conventional cortical or cancellous screws. A locking compression plate can be used as an internal fixator and permit stable bridging over shattered zones. The small locking compression plate system permits the combination of conventional and locking screws. Unicortical locking screw permits better vascularity.
